Blue Chair Bay Banana
With the success of the first three releases of the Blue Chair Bay rum line, it was no surprise to see them release a new product into the marketplace. Blue Chair Bay Banana is made in Barbados at the West Indies Rum Distillery. There it is barrel aged and blended using natural flavors. The tall 750 ml bottle is standard design of the rest of the line. The wooden capped plastic cork is secured to the bottle with a security strip that descends down three quarters of the neck. Its icon is a ship’s wheel with the phrase “Life on a Rock”.
The bottle has a yellow wrap with blue and white script. In the glass the liquid is clear and when agitated creates a medium band with fast moving legs.
When I poured the rum in the glass, the air was filled with banana. After the aroma settled the scent of fresh cut banana and coconut dominate with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg around the edges.
The spices dance around the tip of the tongue as the notes of caramel, banana, and roasted coconut dance around the mouth. As the rum begins to fade towards the finish, the spices take the forefront with a light glycol feel coming into play. The spices balance the sweetness for a nice long finish.
Blended to 53 proof this rum is close to being a cordial and could certainly be used as a substitution for Creme de Banane. The caramel and spices balance the fruit flavors of the banana and coconut creating a well balanced taste experience. When Kenny Chesney created Blue Chair Bay rums he wanted to create a quality line of products that would be great for cocktails. This rum falls right in line with the others and is a good choice when you want to make a Banana Daiquiri. I think it would marry quite well with Castries Peanut rum cream liqueur for a fun flavor combination.
